In May 2026, the French International School Kyoto was delighted to welcome children’s author Michaël Escoffier as part of his Asian tour across five AEFE network schools in Indonesia, China, and Japan. Organized by Aude Jeanson, LFIK’s teacher-librarian, this special event gave students from preschool to Grade 2 the opportunity to discover the world of literary creation and take part in a highly enriching writing and illustration project.
During this exceptional visit, students were given a behind-the-scenes look at how a children’s book is created. Michaël Escoffier explained the different stages that transform an idea into a published book: writing the text, creating the first sketches, working with the illustrator, and finally printing the finished work. Students also had the privilege of attending an exclusive preview reading of one of the author’s upcoming books.
The children then became authors and illustrators themselves. Students in CP, CE1, and CE2 (Grades 1–3) imagined new adventures for Gluks and Deby, the characters from the book EXTRA. Meanwhile, students in middle and upper kindergarten created new encounters for the famous Big-Toothed Crocodile, pairing him with iconic animals from Japan.
The result of this collaborative project showcases the creativity, imagination, and enthusiasm of our students. We are delighted to share their work with you today.

This literary adventure will continue soon with the publication of collaborative books bringing together the work produced by the five schools that participated in Michaël Escoffier’s Asian tour.
A heartfelt thank you to Michaël Escoffier for his generosity and enthusiasm, and to Aude Jeanson, LFIK’s teacher-librarian, for organizing this wonderful project, which enabled our students to discover the work of an author while developing their own creativity.
