New spaces, new selections and new projects: discover the LFIK BCD/CDI, how it works, and meet Charlotte Hubert, our new teacher-librarian.
This year, Charlotte HUBERT joins LFIK as our new teacher-librarian. She supports students with their reading, research and discovery of the many resources available at the school.
But let’s let her introduce herself!
The BCD/CDI brings together two complementary library and resource spaces, designed to support students throughout their school years.
The BCD (Bibliothèque Centre Documentaire – Primary School Library and Resource Centre) is designed for students from preschool through elementary school.
For our youngest students, picture books naturally play an important role: stories, fairy tales, illustrated books and first discoveries gradually introduce children to the pleasure of reading.
As they grow, students can explore collections suited to their age, reading level and interests: early readers, short novels, comics, manga, non-fiction books, tales, magazines and more.
And because a library should also be a place where everyone feels comfortable, students can settle into a cosy reading area, browse through a picture book or simply take some time to read.
As students grow, the resources available to them evolve too. The CDI (Centre de Documentation et d’Information – Secondary School Library and Resource Centre) offers middle and high school students collections adapted to their reading interests, studies and research.
The shelves include classic and contemporary novels, young adult literature, comics, manga, non-fiction books, plays, poetry, periodicals and reference materials..
A collection of books in English also gives students another way to enjoy reading while continuing to develop their language skills outside the classroom.
News, science, history, culture, sports, literature… newspapers and magazines complement the BCD/CDI collections.
They offer students another way to discover current affairs, develop their curiosity or simply enjoy a few minutes of reading between classes.
The CDI also supports students as they begin to think about their future studies and career choices.
A dedicated area provides publications and resources about further education, study programmes and careers. Students can begin their research here and find information to help them gradually build their plans for life after middle and high school.
Above all, the BCD/CDI is a place to use and explore: come in, search, discover, choose… and borrow!
Students are free to browse the shelves and select the resources that interest them. Books and other materials are organised and clearly identified so that students can gradually learn how to navigate the collections independently.
Once they have made their choice, students can borrow books to read at home, before returning them to the BCD/CDI so that other readers can enjoy them too.
You don’t even need to be standing in front of the shelves to start exploring!
Thanks to e-sidoc, the BCD and CDI catalogues are available online. Students and families can search for a book, an author or a topic, explore the resources available and identify books and documents they would like to borrow.

The BCD/CDI is also open to parents every Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A library is more than books and shelves. It is also a space that students can make their own and help bring to life.
And they have already started!
At the beginning of this school year, Charlotte gave them their first mission: help decorate the panels dedicated to comics and graphic novels.
During the lunch break or whenever they have some free time at the CDI, students can choose a book, series or character and let their creativity take over.
Armed with pencils and markers, the worlds of Sorceline, Athena, Les Sœurs Grémillet and many other stories are gradually appearing on the dividers between the comic book sections.
Over the coming weeks, the blank panels will gradually become a gallery imagined and created by the students themselves.
It is an original way to decorate their BCD/CDI… and perhaps inspire other students to discover the stories behind each drawing!
Themed book selections, new arrivals, exhibitions, workshops, class projects… the BCD/CDI will continue to evolve throughout the school year.
Charlotte will regularly organise new activities and highlight books connected to current events, educational projects and the major themes of the year.
A new school year also means new books to discover!
Novels, comics, non-fiction books, magazines… Charlotte has prepared a back-to-school selection for students, with something for every age and every taste.
A dedicated “New Arrivals” area also makes it easy to spot the latest books to join the collections.
More selections, activities and projects will take place throughout the year. BCD/CDI news will regularly be shared on the LFIK website so that students and their families can discover new arrivals, explore our latest selections and keep up with upcoming events.
To start the year, students can already discover our first themed selection: Yellow September, dedicated to mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
As part of the AEFE network’s annual theme focusing on health, the BCD/CDI has put together a selection of age-appropriate books exploring topics related to mental health, emotions, well-being, self-esteem and relationships with others.
Because taking care of our mental health also begins with being able to understand how we feel, put our feelings into words and talk about them.
Whether you are looking for your next novel, discovering a new comic, preparing a school project, browsing a magazine, researching your future studies or simply sitting down with a book for a while, there is always a good reason to visit the BCD/CDI.
